St. Jordi

Traditionaly in Catalunya, on april 23, it's the celebration of Sant Jordi day, the day of the "in love" ones. People exchange roses and books with their couple and beloved ones. It's a trdition that the man gives a rose to a woman and this one gives a book to the man. It's believed that this act of giving a rose to the loved woman was born in the XV century. It is known that by that time roses were already given to woman who were present in the religious cerimony of the Saint George's (St. Jordi) Church, of the State Palace of Catalunya. With the rose, it's given a flag of Catalunya and a wheat branch. The colour red of the rose simbolyzes passion, the flag the governor of Catalunya and the weat, fertility.
